History
The Foundation (1980)
The EGS was inaugurated in 1980 by a group of 37 pioneering geophysicists. These visionaries recognized the need for a unified platform to represent the profession, facilitate communication, and advance the state of geophysics in Egypt during a period of rapid industrial growth.
Four Decades of Evolution
- 1980s – 1990s: The Society established its roots, attracting talent from national oil companies and academic institutions, and began its tradition of annual scientific gatherings.
- 2003: Marking a significant milestone in academic standing, the EGS launched its first official Annual Scientific Journal, which remains a primary reference for regional geophysical studies.
- 2007: Recognizing the need for youth empowerment, EGS launched the Al Amal Program. This program has since become a standard-bearer for corporate social responsibility and professional development in the Egyptian energy sector.
- 2015 – Present: The society expanded its reach to the next generation by initiating EGS Student Forums and strengthening ties with SEG student chapters across seven Egyptian universities.
