Professional Biography

Geoph. Samir Abdelmoaty AbdelKhalek Director of New Ventures and Strategic Partnership at GeoEnergy group and former Country Manager of UOG Egypt, with a B.Sc. in physics and geology from Cairo University in 1971, and M.Sc. in geophysics from Al Azhar University.

Samir attended the Management Program at Rice University, Houston, Texas, and the International Management Program at Texas A&M University.

He worked for the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, GUPCO, PGS, BP, Beach Petroleum, Rockhopper Exploration, and United Oil and Gas.

He is also a board member of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), a member of the counsel of the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, as well as a visiting lecturer at Alexandria and Mansoura universities

Abdelmoaty is the Chairman of the Egyptian Geophysical Society (EGS), and he is a co-founder of Al Amal program.

Samir is involved in global and local activities mainly through SEG and EGS; he is a founding member of the SEG Middle East Advisory Committee and served as SEG board director (2012-2014).

In 2022, Samir was awarded the SEG Special Commendation award and had previously received the SEG Honorary Membership (2009) and Life Member (2002) awards. He presented the SEG Africa and Middle East Honorary Lecture in 2009.

Experience: Prof. Dr. Hosny Ezz El- Deen was the Former Vice president of DRC, He represents 42 years' experience in the field of applied geophysics, Supervising and participating research teams for geophysical exploration of groundwater in different areas in Egypt (West and East Nile Delta, western and Eastern Desert, Sinai and Nile Valley) Within the framework of the research projects executed by the Desert Research Center(DRC) Since 1993 until now. Moreover, He is a member of the board directors and treasurer of the Egyptian Geophysical Society and he is a member of the Egyptian Geological Society. He published more than 30 research papers in the local and international journals and supervisor of more than 6 of M.Sc. and Ph. D. students. He published many chapters in the book of groundwater in Egypt's Desert, Springer water. He is a reviewer in many local journal, Well logging data (Groundwater) acquisition, qualitative and quantitative interpretation of the different logging tools. He is a reviewer for promotion to the ranks of Research Professor and Assistant Research Professor in any many Egyptian Universities and Research Centers. Also, he is a reviewer for the M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in many universities in Egypt.

Prof. Ahmed Youssef was the Former president of DRC, and Former Focal Point of Combating Desertification Egypt. He represents 42 years' experience in the field of applied geophysics, Remote Sensing and GIS applications on desertification monitoring, crises management, monitoring and assessment of arid environments, inventory of natural resources, land degradation assessment and control, rehabilitation of degraded lands. He is a professor in applied geophysics and got his B. Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in geophysics, geophysics department, Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, Egypt. He is one of founder of "Remote Sensing and GIS Unit in 1987". He shared the all national and international projects of the saline agriculture in the Egytian Center of Excellence for Saline agriculture from 2015. Moreover, He is a member of the board directors and treasurer of the Egyptian Geophysical Socity and he is a member of the Egyptian Geological Society. Prof. Ahmed Youssef is the consultant of President of DRC for the well drilling. He published more than 50 research papers in the local and international journals and supervisor of more than 15 of M.Sc. and Ph. D. students. He published many chapters in the book of groundwater in Egypt's Desert, Springer water. He is a reviewer in many local journal, Elsever Editorial Systems (EES) and Taylors & Francis and Kudos. Prof. Ahmed Youssef taught the courses of Remote Sensing & GIS and geophysical methods for the undergradute and postgratuate students in many faculities of sience, engineering, agriculture and arts in the different Egyptian Universities. He is an expert in Arab Organization for Agricultural Development to conducte different training cources for the agriculture engineers and geologists in Egypt and the Arab Countries. Morever, he is a lecture in the Regional Training Center at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. He provided consultations to local, regional, and international organizations in Egypt and United Arabian Emirates (UAE). He Invited speakers in more than 30 national and international workshops and conferences in the field of applied geophysics, groundwater exploration and assessment, saline agriculture, Remote Sensing & GIS and dseretification. He is a reviewer for promotion to the ranks of Rsearch Professor and Assistant Research Professor in any many Egyptian Univiresities and Reserch Centers. Shehab Elghazaly is a geoscience leader with around two decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, currently serving as a Geoscience Team Leader at bp. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in advancing subsurface understanding, supporting exploration and development decisions, and delivering integrated projects evaluations across a range of geological settings in Egypt, Mauritania and Senegal regions.

His technical expertise spans seismic interpretation, quantitative subsurface analysis, reservoir characterization, prospect maturation, and integrated field development planning. Shehab has extensive experience working across multidisciplinary teams, bridging geoscience, reservoir engineering, and commercial functions to enable data-driven decisions and maximize asset value. He is particularly interested in leveraging digital technologies, analytics, and innovative workflows to enhance subsurface insight and improve decision quality.

Shehab is an active contributor to the geoscience community, participating in technical committees, peer-assist initiatives, conferences, and knowledge-sharing programs that promote best practices and continuous learning. As a Board Member of the Egyptian Geophysical Society, he supports initiatives that advance technical excellence, professional development, and collaboration between academia and industry, with a strong focus on mentoring early-career professionals and fostering a responsible, sustainable energy future. Prof.Mohamed Elgabry Professor of Natural Hazards, National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG).

Director, African Disaster Mitigation Research Center (ADMiR)

Mohamed ElGabry is a geophysicist and Professor of Natural Hazards at NRIAG, where he also serves as Director of ADMiR. With over two decades of experience in seismology, environmental monitoring, and disaster risk reduction, he has led and contributed to numerous studies focused on seismic networks and resilience strategies across Africa. He is the first Egyptian elected President of the African Seismological Commission.

His expertise spans forensic geophysics and scientific diplomacy. In forensic applications, he employs advanced analytical methods to discriminate between natural seismic events and anthropogenic explosions, contributing to heritage protection, national security, and verification science. Internationally, he plays a key role in capacity building and multilateral cooperation across the African continent.

Prof. ElGabry maintains a longstanding engagement with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), where he serves as Deputy Team Leader for On-Site Inspection (OSI) in several Exercises, supporting technical and operational preparedness for the Treaty’s entry into force. His work contributes to strengthening global verification mechanisms, enhancing international security, and advancing science-driven pathways toward resilience, stability, and peace.

Aser Abdelaziz is a geoscientist and energy professional with over 15 years of experience at the intersection of geology, energy management, and organizational leadership. Currently serving as New Business Manager at the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) — under Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources — Aser leads the “New Energy Solutions” team, driving strategic projects that position Egypt for a sustainable energy future. His work spans Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS/CCUS) business frameworks, the integration of geothermal energy into Egypt’s national energy mix, and the development of underground gas storage solutions for both strategic and commercial use. He also serves as a ministerial-level representative on the cross-ministry CCS workforce between the Ministries of Petroleum and Environment.

Aser’s career trajectory reflects a rare blend of deep technical expertise and progressive leadership. He began as a field and wellsite geologist with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Agiba Petroleum Company, spending nearly a decade interpreting subsurface data, conducting reservoir correlations, and recommending exploratory well targets across Egypt’s Western Desert. Joining EUG in 2020, he steadily expanded his impact — leading portal services, heading a sales team, and overseeing operations and planning for the broader organization before stepping into his current strategic role. Throughout this journey, he has represented Egypt at major regional and international industry events including ADIPEC, EGYPS, and the Mediterranean Offshore Conference.

Beyond his professional roles, Aser is a recognized voice in Egypt’s energy and geoscience community. He has served as a keynote and invited speaker at premier events such as the SEG Symposium, the Egyptian Geophysical Society Annual Meeting, and the SEG Mediterranean & Red Sea Exploration Summit, where he is selected as panel moderator. He is a Shell NXplorers Master Facilitator with over 600 hours of workshop delivery, empowering students, graduates, and government delegates in systems thinking and scenario planning. He holds a B.Sc. in Geology/Chemistry from Alexandria University and is currently pursuing an MBA in Business Management from Royal Business College of UK (expected 2027), complemented by certifications in Google Project Management, Carbon Capture and Storage from the University of Edinburgh, and leadership programs from Indiana University. Dr. Aia M. Dahrougis an Associate Professor in Geophysics and Vice President of Governance unit at Faculty of Science, Cairo University.

She was awarded PhD, MSc and BSc degrees (Top of class with honors) in Geophysics from Cairo University. She worked as PhD and MSc researcher at BP Egypt over different gas fields, Nile Delta, Egypt. Her research focuses primarily on reservoir characterization, by integrating Petrophysical Analysis, Rockphysics Modelling, Seismic Interpretation, Seismic Inversion, Seismic Attributes, AVO Modelling, and Multi-attribute Analysis. Through her publications, she addresses key challenges in the O&G sector, aiming to investigate reservoir properties and delineate the sweet spots.

In addition to her research contributions, Dr. Aia is dedicated to teaching and mentorship. She lectures post and undergraduate courses, supervises post graduate studies and senior projects. Her main target is to fill the gap between academic and O&G industry, moreover, transfer her passion and experience in geophysics to her students.

She also plays an active leadership role within the academic and professional community. She is the HSSE representative at Geophysics Department and the Head of JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Committee at EGS. She was the former Coordinator of Petroleum Geosciences Program at Cairo University and was a member of the University’s World Ranking Team.
